The funny thing about The Irish Times, and indeed all other Combine agents, is that they seem obliged to tell the truth. You might have to wade through tons of bovine excrement to get to the truth and, when you find it, that truth is hardly a revelation of the previously unknown. In fact it will be obvious common sense to any sane person who stumbles upon it.
So in that tweet about Simon Harris we read: "he can dance to any tune you play". We know this but why do they admit it so openly? For what it's worth here's my theory.
When the shit hits the fan (very soon it appears) they will be able to say, 'well we did tell you the truth, didn't we?" In other words you didn't object to what you read/saw/heard so we assumed your consent and carried on.
It reminds me of a ploy revealed by Sir Humphrey in Yes Minister in which the civil servant who placed the papers in the minister's red box for him to approve would put the really vital document at the bottom of the pile. So if things went pear-shaped later on the civil servant would have his defence ready: 'well I told the minister and he approved it.' Of course the minister would have given up scrutinising each paper long before he got to that crucial document and just rubberstamped the lot before going to bed.
