I think we all battle on a daily basis with good thoughts & bad thoughts. The Apostle Paul said that the good that he wanted to do, he didn’t do & the evil that he didn’t want to do, that’s what he did. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder also comes to mind - while we may not consider ourselves beautiful as in what Holywood or Instagram considers beautiful we all have the potential to have beautiful souls & I’d rather have beauty on the inside caused by the refreshing / renewing of my soul each day by praying & reading God’s word which continues until death than a beauty on the outside which fades as life progresses. I totally get the lots of thoughts / ideas jumping about inside your head - I’m told I have a ping pong brain too 🙈

What about when an acquaintance, whom U want to help, wants to share with U their very own demons? So - ur opening the door to their appeals, their cries, their neediness (such a word?) - allowing a little demon or three in that U know U can chase out later, and after U hav blocked the bigger ones. Yes bigger, that are bulking up at ur door ready to blot ur own landscape, ready to take up residence - so U shut the door.

The acquaintance senses a withdrawal, it's a strategic withdrawal, the acquaintance is not happy. Their neediness is special, more special than anybody else's - at this stage we move in to psychology mode, attempting to neutralise even dehumanise by applying a label from the psychology box. Arrested development ? Narcissism ?

"Here I gotta go, got to hit the shower- am bogging - talk later" - and then we open "the west's awake" & add a comment.

Now - wher was I?

Now that is a trip down memory lane!! 🤗 I played that song over and over and over as a teenager... death-defying love indeed! Though I'm not sure my parents felt the same way 🤭 I'm glad you're reunited with Brigid and that she shares your taste in music...

The Power of Love was the title of three songs that were hits around the same time back in the 1980s I think. But the one by Frankie Goes to Hollywood is by far the best and the one I still listen to regularly to this day.

Those lines reach into something deep in the human soul. In my own case they certainly do. It's funny how a line or two in a pop song can touch us at a subterranean level almost.

Great writing as always Gerry. You should think yourself lucky (perhaps God was looking after you)not to get locked up. Here in the UK we get locked up for tweeting and praying in our heads outside abortion clinics. And yes you are beautiful as we all are ☺.

I really enjoyed reading this Gerry, and leaving ourselves open to demons in my opinion is one of the biggest problems we face , not all the thoughts that pop into our head are our own and can be damaging . For myself I have to stay vigilant to leave no gap for entry especially when drinking or in a crowd. Oh this is just my opinion by the way.

Excellent observation! Yes! Some of our thoughts are not our own. (If I can just remember that.)
