One of the less humble goals of this little publication is to cause maximum pain for the corrupted elements within the Irish mainstream media. Which, to my admittedly slightly biased mind, is almost all of it.
Now, there are positive ways to attempt to do this and there are more negative methods. My preference is to take the positive route. Rather than complain about the terribleness of the corporately funded media in this country and beg them to change through criticism and pleading - there is another path available.
Quietly replace them.
Obviously, one person can’t do this alone or one reader either and even if you could achieve the goal in a singular fashion it wouldn’t be the preferred path to take at all. As after all, as the old saying goes, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
A new media would only be attractive if you could in some way guarantee a huge reduction in the potential corruptibility of it. No easy task. One way of potentially looking at the problem, harps back to one of the themes or sub-plots to my writing here on Substack to date. Decentralization. This is where a platform like Substack can really come into its own if utilized correctly by Irish content creators. As luck would have it I’m beginning to see the seeds of a new Irish media grow on here bit by bit. And I suppose this is my attempt to add a sprinkling of water and some beams of sunshine to those little pots of goodness.
