I had pretty low writing expectations for the month of July. Yet, it has turned out to be the most fruitful month, by far, since I sat myself down here on this Substack platform ten months ago. The gift of this month has been to acquire a much deeper knowledge about two classes of Irish citizen that are in our midst but that remain largely silent.
The first group I classify as the half-awake.
Who are these mysterious half-awake creatures you might fairly ask. Well, let me apply the following tag for the purposes of simple imagery. Most GAA people are half-awake. The GAA is half-awake.
In addition to this type of person there is a branch of humanity distinct to the freedom movement that I have, up to this point, either missed or overlooked. A critically-thinking intellectual class operating within the structures of our state agencies, multi-nationals and academic sectors who are extremely unhappy with the path this country is headed down. Indeed, they are very distressed with the compass direction of the organisations to which they dedicate the fruits of their daily labour. But unsure of how to tackle the problem and to this point they too have been mostly silent. However I am hopeful some are inching towards finding a suitable vehicle from which to express their mounting frustrations.
