Last Thursday, I spent a very relaxing and peaceful afternoon walking along the banks of the Grand Canal with a man called Richie from Laois. Then afterwards, we sat down in the kitchen of his self-built cabin for a long chat about the pandemic years and his spiritual journey.
We talked on different topics from how he managed his anger and rage during the weekly shopping trips to Tesco - to the responsibility of protecting his Irish soul. The spiritual aspect of this conversation resonated with me a great deal. I was chewing on many aspects of what Richie said on the car drive home later that night. I couldn’t help but contemplate on how dedicated and disciplined Richie is in working on his spiritual self, daily.
Inspiring.
I hope you get something from the conversation - as much as I did.
My philosophy is that there's something to do with this land and something to do with me connected to the land, and my soul connected to the land
- Richie from Laois
I had an issue with the audio on this episode so I had to do some jiggery-pokery with the file and as a result am publishing in a video format on Youtube for improved quality although it’s an audio podcast.

Hiya Richard, It took me a while to twig it was you. It was when you mentioned the steel works that I perked up. Fair play to you for doing it. I was with you on that fake pandemic era, surreal wasn't it. I spent most of that year in Spain where we had curfews at 6.30 pm and face nappies in the street, they even had the beach marked out. One day I saw a lady swimming with a nappy on her mouth poor dear. I never wore them in Ireland. It was a mad period altogether
The sound on the podcast was quite poor Gerry (for me). I would've preferred if you were on video showing Richard and his house and his glasshouse and his homemade bread. Maybe another time, keep well and love to Sabrina
Braved a listen, not too bad thanks Gerry
