Late last week, while the media and government distracted the nation with attempts to style a protest into some sort of January 6th event, an even more sinister development began in earnest. The first quiet steps of a private property grab. On Thursday of last week new agents of the state milled into Tuam, and other towns around the county and country, and began nailing signage to the doors of vacant houses in the town centre. Neighbouring residents were interviewed by these agents of the Galway county council to ascertain information of the persons or otherwise living or last living in the properties. In my opinion it begins a process that will end with a large number of private properties ending up in state hands. This sweep of the country comes under the auspices of The Vacant Homes Action Plan.
